    A longtime favorite in the hobby due to its vibrant color, small size, and peaceful behavior, the Blue Ram originates in the Llanos region of Colombia and Venezuela, where it is found in small, shallow streams and pools known as morichales. Although it has been commercially bred for generations in many dfiferent color forms, the wild form remains deservedly popular while being hardy and undemanding in the aquarium. It is among the most hardy of the dwarf cichlid species, ideal for beginners. A great species for planted or community tanks, they can be slightly territorial towards each other but will rarely bother other fish.

    Originating from northern Brazil, Peru, and French Guyana, Adelphobates quinquevittatus (commonly misspelled quinquevittatum) are very rare in the hobby. These froglets are from Phil Tan’s old German line. Quinqevittatus do great in groups and are not loud. They are very consistent (between individuals) white pinstripes on a jet black background on their bodies and orange/red legs.

    The Royal Clown Loach or Imperial Flower Loach is the largest species of loach or botia in the world, originating in the subtropical waters of China’s Yangtze River. An elongated species well adapted to life in fast-moving water, they are powerful swimmers which prefer strong current and well-oxygenated water in the aquarium. In the wild, they feed on worms, crustaceans, and other fish (including smaller loaches). They will readily hunt down and eat small tankmates so should be kept with similarly sized fish. As a cooler water species, they do best in an unheated tank with temperatures ranging from 55-74F.

In the aquarium, they are peaceful for a cichlid, and prefer to live in groups. A relatively peaceful cichlid, the Caqueta Gold Eartheater is best kept in an aquarium with fine sand substrate so they can exhibit their natural sand sifting behavior. A varied diet rich in quality proteins and high in red color enhancers like astaxanthin will ensure they develop their most vibrant coloration in the aquarium.
