A smaller puffer species found throughout Southeast Asia, the Red Eye Puffer is a peaceful, pure freshwater puffer often found in soft, acidic streams . Among the more peaceful species of puffer, they can be maintained in groups in a sufficiently large aquarium as long as ample cover is provided.
A rare and colorful predatory species from the rivers and lakes of Central China, the Red Perch or Mandarin Perch sports beautiful red and yellow markings and an intricate pattern that becomes more pronounced with age. Care in the aquarium is similar to that of the datnoids or tigerfish, but Chinese Red Perch are able to tolerate much cooler temperatures as they originate in temperate areas.
One of the only species of Moray Eels to inhabit true freshwater environments, the Tiger Moray (G. polyuranodon) is a rarity in the hobby due to the remote areas it inhabits in West Papua, Indonesia. A hardy and adaptable fish, it can tolerate freshwater to almost full strength marine conditions if acclimated carefully. In the wild, they feed primarily on crustaceans and small fish, and like most Morays tong feeding is often the best way to get them used to frozen foods. They are a remarkable escape artist and any tank housing these fish should be completely escape-proof.

Found in the Mekong basin in Northeastern Thailand, Laos, and parts of Cambodia, this species generally adapts well to the aquarium and makes for an impressive display specimen. They prefer clear, well-oxygenated water and are sensitive to water quality, so regular water changes are important to keep them thriving.
A rare species of the famed Goonch Catfish of Southeast and South Asia, the Crocodile Goonch Catfish (Bagarius suchus) is found in the rocky rapids of the middle Mekong in Thailand, Laos, and parts of Cambodia. With their elongated body and broad sensory barbels, these catfish are highly adapted to life in the rocky, fast-moving waters they inhabit in the wild. The Crocodile Goonch is among the smaller members of its genus but still reaches a substantial size, approaching 2 feet as adults. In the aquarium, they should be kept in similar conditions to the wild, with clean, well-oxygenated water and strong current. Rocks and other hides should be provided and they will generally do best with low or subdued lighting.

It is relatively peaceful however and will coexist well with other large tankmates.

The Humphead Carb (Incisilabeo behri) formerly Bangana behri, is an unusual cpyrinid found through the Mekong and its tributaries in Southeast Asia in fast-moving waters. While juvenile fish are not particularly distinctive, as these fish grow they develop a large, distinctive hump on their forehead (similar to the nuchal hump seen on cichlids). A grazer and omnivore, they will readily eat hair algae and diatoms, making them a useful as well as impressive addition to large predatory fish tanks. Best kept in groups of 3 or more.
A smaller puffer species found in Southeast Asia, P. leiurus is found in both pure fresh and brackish water environments but is more commonly encountered in freshwater. They are generally peaceful towards each other, but tankmates should be considered carefully as, like all puffers, these fish are likely to nip fins or bite.
One of a very few species of pure freshwater archer, the Small Scale or Microlepis Archerfish is found in freshwater habitat throughout South and Central Thailand. They are a bold and outgoing surface-dwelling species that is best kept with other similar-sized fish. They can be aggressive towards each other if kept in small numbers but larger groups (5 or more) tend to coexist peacefully. Like all archers, they are surface feeders renowned for their ability to spit water at quite a distance to stun their insect prey.
The Panda Loach is an attractively marked small species originating from cool, fast flowing streams in Southern China. An algae grazer and scavenger in nature, they will do best in an aquarium with some current and ample rocks or driftwood for cover and grazing surfaces. Although they will adapt to warmer temperatures for a time they will do best at cooler temperatures (68-75) long term. A recently described and massive growing catfish from the Mekong Basin in Southeast Asia, the Blackhawk Catfish (Wallagonia micropogon) is a large and distinctive predatory species. With its characteristic large mouth and eel-like body, this catfish makes for a unique display fish in a suitably large aquarium. They can be distinguished from their close relatives in the genus Wallago by their solid black dorsal and pectoral fins and distinctive black marbled pattern. Tankmates for this species should be chosen carefully as they will attempt to eat anything that can fit in their surprisingly large mouth. Due to their enormous adult size, this fish is recommended only for experienced hobbyists with the largest aquaria.
The Indo-Pacific Tarpon is a widely distributed predator found throughout the coastal regions of the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Although they can tolerate full marine conditions, they are more often found in fresh or brackish water habitats close to the coast. Juvenile fish are a uniform silver, but develop a distinctive red and black trim on the tail as they grow. As an open water swimmer and predator growing to a massive adult size, the Indo-Pacific Tarpon is suitable only for the largest home aquariums.
