  • Platinum Burmese Clouded Archer (Toxotes blythii)

Platinum Burmese Clouded Archer (Toxotes blythii)

    Price range: $299.99 through $349.99

One of the true freshwater species of archerfish, the Burmese Clouded Archer (Toxotes blythii) is by far the most beautiful species in its genus. Found on the lower reaches of the Salween River in Southern Myanmar (Burma) along the Thai border, these fish inhabit shallow, clear waters far from the coast. As with all archerfish, this species has the remarkable ability to shoot bursts of water at insects above the water’s surface – which make up the majority of their diet. Care in the aquarium is relatively straightforward, but it is important to remember that like most archerfish they can be hesitant to feed at first, especially if kept with aggressive feeders like cichlids. Most can easily be trained onto prepared foods by offering live feeder insects and floating pellets at the same time, and clouded archers will generally wean onto frozen and prepared diets quickly. We offer specimens well acclimated to aquarium life and feeding on a variety of different prepared (non-live) items.

  • Giant Devil Catfish (Bagarius cf. bagarius)

Giant Devil Catfish (Bagarius cf. bagarius)

    $99.99

The Giant Devil Catfish (Bagarius bagarius) originating from northern India is one of the true “monster fish”. With their elongated body and broad sensory barbels, these catfish are highly adapted to life in the rocky, fast-moving waters they inhabit in the wild. The Giant Devil Catfish or Goonch Catfish is the largest member of its genus approaching 8 feet or more as adults in the wild. In the aquarium, they are likely to stay much smaller however should be kept in similar conditions to the wild, with clean, well-oxygenated water, strong current and a pond or extremely large aquarium. Rocks and other hides should be provided and they will generally do best with low or subdued lighting.

There is much uncertainty on the actual identity of species within the genus Bagarius. Until there is further scientific revision it is impossible to be 100% sure whether these are true giants or dwarf species (both referred to as Bagarius bagarius in the most recent literature) collected from northern India. Please email [email protected] if you’d like photos of specific fish before purchase.

  • Horned Blenny (Omobranchus smithi)

    Horned Blenny (Omobranchus smithi)

    $24.99

Originating from the coastal waters of Western India and Bangladesh, the Horned Blenny is one of a very few species of Blenny that inhabits fresh and brackish waters in the wild. A medium sized, active fish with an attractive, variable pattern of stripes and a notable ear shape marking, this fish inhabits a wide variety of estuarine and mangrove swamp habitat, but are more often found in fresh or slightly brackish water than full marine conditions. In the aquarium, they adapt to a variety of conditions but will do best in at least moderate strength brackish water (10-20ppt salinity). They can be hard on similar-sized tankmates and tend to spar with each other over territory, so be sure to provide plenty of cover and hiding places. They are best kept with larger fast swimming fish.

  • Avocado Puffer (Auriglobus modestus)

    Avocado Puffer (Auriglobus modestus)

    Price range: $34.99 through $39.99

A true freshwater puffer found in parts of Southeast Asia, the Avocado Puffer (Auriglobus modestus), also known as the Golden Puffer or Bronze Puffer, is a unique, fast-moving species which is often found in groups in the wild. Like most puffers, they are prone to nipping the fins of other fish, so should be kept with hardy, fast-moving tankmates (if any). This species can be kept in a  group of 5 or more fish, although they should be fed heavily and given plenty of cover to avoid aggression. They are known to inhabit fast flowing waters, so the addition of a powerhead for some current may be beneficial.

  • F1 Mekong River Puffer (Pao palustris) - Tank Raised

F1 Mekong River Puffer (Pao palustris) – Tank Raised

    Price range: $29.99 through $49.99

An attractive and uncommonly imported freshwater puffer from the Greater Mekong Basin in Thailand and Cambodia, the Mekong River Puffer is typically found in shallow water habitat with significant plant coverage. Like most puffers, they use their sharp, powerful beaks to hunt and eat insects, molluscs, and crustaceans. In the aquarium, they are a relatively hardy species and can usually be kept in a group but as with most puffer species any other tankmates can be risky. In the wild, they feed on snails, clams, and other crustaceans and will require regular feedings with hard-shelled prey items in the aquarium to keep their teeth from overgrowing.
