A vibrantly colored and sought after pencilfish from the Rio Huallaga in Peru, the Purple Pencilfish (Nannostomus rubrocaudatus) makes a spectacular addition to a planted aquarium or blackwater style aquarium. Like most pencilfish, they can be somewhat shy and will do best in small groups of 5 or more fish. Males develop the most intense purple coloration, with dominant males in the group typically being the most brightly colored.

Diet: Omnivore and micropredator, will readily accept most frozen or prepared foods
Adult Size: 1.5 – 2″

Compatibility: Generally peaceful towards most tankmates
