The Gold Honey Gourami (Trichogaster chuna) is a smaller species of Gourami originating from India and often confused with the Thick Lipped Gourami (Trichogaster labiosa). Both species are commercially farmed and sometimes hybridized. They can range from red to orange and yellow in coloration. Honey Gourami do best in aquariums with lower flow rates and plenty of cover like plants providing shady areas to reside.
One of the smaller gouramis in the aquarium trade, the Dwarf Gourami (Trichogaster lalius), also known as the Flame Gourami, is a popular choice for freshwater community tanks. Their striking coloration is highly variable, with this gourami coming in a myriad of color phases. The Dwarf Gourami is a labyrinthian fish, coming up to the surface for air and often building elaborate bubble nests. These fish will do best with peaceful, schooling tankmates or bottom dwellers.
