With its vivid yellow coloration and red eyes, the Lemon Tetra has been deservedly popular in the aquarium hobby for decades. A peaceful, medium-growing schooling fish, this species has been bred on a commercial scale for many years but wild collected fish are rarely available. In the wild, this species inhabits the soft, clear waters of the middle and lower Rio Tapajos in Brazil, where they are found in a range of habitat types. Wild fish often display more vivid coloration than their aquacultured counterparts.
