A larger growing and uncommonly imported species of Corydoras, the Pastaza Cory is found in shallow, sandy and rocky stretches of the Rio Pastaza and Maranon in Peru and Ecuador. In the aquarium, they will do best with plenty of open space and moderate current. This species seems to prefer slightly cooler water temperatures and should not be kept long term at temperatures much above 78F.

One of the larger and more impressive species of Corydoras, the Fowleri or Fowler’s Cory can be distinguished by its heavy body, long snout, distinct black patterning and iridescent green coloration. Found in shallow, sandy and rocky stretches of Peru’s Rio Ampiyacu, they do best in aquariums with plenty of open space and moderate current. In the aquarium, they are hardy and make an excellent addition to the lower levels of a medium sized community aquarium or with more peaceful South American Cichlids. This species seems to prefer slightly cooler water temperatures and should not be kept long term at temperatures much above 78F.
