A rarely imported and colorful characin, the Blue Flash Glass Tetra has a wide distribution in South America but is uncommon throughout its range. It tends to inhabit soft, acidic waters and are typically found in large aggregations alongside other similar-sized tetras. Heterocharax virgulatus displays a striking iridescent coloration with hints of blue, green, and yellow depending on the ambient lighting. In the aquarium, this fish hardy and adaptable is best kept in a group of 5 or more with similarly-sized tankmates.
