Myersi Basketmouth Cichlid (Caquetaia myersi)

A unique predatory cichlid found in Western Amazon tributaries, the Myersi Cichlid or Myersi Basketmouth is one of several closely related species which use their long, extendable jaws to ambush and inhale smaller fish. In the aquarium, they are hardy and will readily accept prepared foods but care should be taken to ensure smaller tankmates aren’t at risk of being eaten. A typically territorial cichlid, they are not overly aggressive in most cases and make a unique addition to a mixed species cichlid community tank.
