The Banded Sleeper Goby (Amblygobius phalaena) makes a great addition to the reef aquarium. This larger sand sifting goby will work through the substrate cleaning the sand bed while feeding on small crustaceans and algae. They make excellent community fish with their docile temperament. They will feed on pellets and frozen foods in the aquarium.

The Indo-Pacific region’s of clear lagoons and seaward reefs are home to the beautiful Bicolor Blenny (Ecsenius bicolor). It mostly consumes plant matter, including algae, and it can aid in regulating algae growth in the aquarium. The Bicolor Blenny can generally be found hiding among the rocks at the bottom of an aquarium.

The Kanu Goby (Mugilogobius mertoni) or Chequered Mangrove Goby is a brackish goby found throughout much of the Indo-Pacific. They can be found in freshwater, but generally inhabit brackish to full marine environments. Colorful, hardy, and not picky feeders, they are a great addition to any brackish or marine aquarium with suitable tankmates. These gobies are are generally peaceful, but can become territorial with other gobies, especially other males.

The Mural Sleeper Goby (Valenciennea muralis), also known as the Striped Sleeper Goby, is native to the tropical seas of Southeast Asia. These fish have a naturally timid temperament and will spend most of their time down in the sandy substrate. They are generally peaceful micropredators and feed by sifting through the sand, keeping your substrate well oxygenated as well as adding a great cleaner to your tank.
The Wheeler’s Watchman (Amblyeleotris wheeleri) is a small species of shrimp goby that pairs symbiotically with a pistol shrimp. These gobies are reef safe and will want smaller grain sized sand to burrow into. Reaching only 3″ in size, they are appropriate for smaller reef aquariums.

An extremely rare find in the saltwater trade, the Bartail Flathead (Platycephalus indicus), also known as the Indian Flathead, is a marine and brackish fish native to the Indo-West Pacific. These fish are closely related to the scorpionfish and have venomous spines. Growing up to 24 inches long, Bartail Flatheads spend most of their time on or camouflaged in the substrate and will feed on benthic algae as well as any fish and crustaceans that can fit in their mouth!

The Railway Sleeper Goby (Valenciennea helsdingenii), also known as the Sand Sifter Goby, is native to the tropical seas of Southeast Asia and extending down towards Australia. These fish have a naturally timid temperament and will spend most of their time down in the sandy substrate. They are generally peaceful micropredators and feed by sifting through the sand, keeping your substrate well oxygenated as well as adding a striking splash of color and personality to your setup.
Native to the tropical reefs of the Indo-Pacific, the Firefish (Nemateleotris magnifica) is a popular fish in the marine aquarium hobby. They are also commonly known as the Firefish Goby, the Fire Goby, the Magnificent Dartfish, or the Fire Dartfish. As a relatively peaceful and reef-safe species, the Firefish is sure to add a splash of color and personality to your saltwater setup. These fish have unparalleled coloration, with bodies of yellow and red with splashes of yellow and iridescence. The Firefish Goby has an active personality, but does require plenty of hiding spaces to escape to when threatened. Be sure to keep them in a heavily decorated tank with a tight-fitting lid!
